Baby Hummingbird found….?

August 10, 2011 hummingbird

I was cutting down some branches when i heard a peeping noise coming from the branches i cut down and found a baby hummingbird…it wasnt too young because it had a good amount of feathers. I wanted to put it back in the tree, but the nest was broken and was full of mites and so was the baby. The nest by itself would have fallen down becasue it was so unstable…so i put the baby and its nest in a shoebox and put it back in the tree..i saw the parents flying around and i went inside…i checked went outside again an hour later and i didnt hear him crying anymore….do you think he is ok now or should i take him to a rescue???

If the parent is caring for it..let it be. You did the right thing by getting the bird back to where it’s original nest location was. You should always refrain from trimming or cutting trees during the bird breeding season as it is illegal to destroy, disturb, or chop down a birds nest. If you MUST trim during this time of the year, you MUST look for nests first.

You did the right thing by putting it back in the tree, now stand back and don’t interfere with nature. If it lives then great if it dont, then it was ment to be. Accidents happen but 2 wrongs dont make a right. It is natural selection and survival of the fittest.

Bird parents are the best experts on caring for bird babies, so the best thing to do is usually to let them get on with the job – they know what to do :)
