How Hummingbirds Fly When It Is Raining

Posted by Filed Under hummingbird with No Comments

The University of California, Berkeley has just realeased slow motion video footage showing how hummingbirds deal with water when they are flying.

It was unknown how out small friends manage to hover when it is raining, but slow-motion footage reveals the hummingbirds shake their heads to remove the water.

Now, it may not seem a big deal for them to “shake their heads”, but the video study shows that the hummiongbirds do this with incredible speed.  So much speed, in fact, that they generate upto 34g in acceleration forces when they do this.

Absolutely amazing!

The BBC has posted the full details and video footage of the hummingbird at theit site.  You can follow the link below to take a look.

HELP!!! I FOUND A BABY HUMMINGBIRD!! WHAT TO DO?

Posted by Filed Under hummingbird with 9 Comments

I found a baby hummingbird in our game room. It was on the floor, and I couldn’t find the nest anywhere, believe me I looked. And the thing is that the game room has been closed for two days so I don’t think the mother has been there since then. And I don’t know what to do, I put the hummingbird outside of the game room entrance and left it there for a little while but it didn’t move and I didn’t see another hummingbird anywhere. So I put it in a warm place, and now WHAT DO I DO??? is it possible to keep the hummingbird and raise it??
thanks for the help, I put it outside near the game room in a old nest that I found in a tree, [right next to a hummingbird flower tree] so I’m hoping it will survive, and hummingbirds dont have a sense of smell so they wont know I touched it. So I’m just going to let nature take its course, its a beautiful bird I hope it lives!
