HELP!!! I FOUND A BABY HUMMINGBIRD!! WHAT TO DO?

September 2, 2011 hummingbird

I found a baby hummingbird in our game room. It was on the floor, and I couldn’t find the nest anywhere, believe me I looked. And the thing is that the game room has been closed for two days so I don’t think the mother has been there since then. And I don’t know what to do, I put the hummingbird outside of the game room entrance and left it there for a little while but it didn’t move and I didn’t see another hummingbird anywhere. So I put it in a warm place, and now WHAT DO I DO??? is it possible to keep the hummingbird and raise it??
thanks for the help, I put it outside near the game room in a old nest that I found in a tree, [right next to a hummingbird flower tree] so I’m hoping it will survive, and hummingbirds dont have a sense of smell so they wont know I touched it. So I’m just going to let nature take its course, its a beautiful bird I hope it lives!

it’s possible to raise the bird only if you know what your doing. you need to call the wild life folks and tell them about the bird. they will know what to do for it. if it can eat on it’s own you need to find out what to get it to eat. good luck

Honestly, I don’t think there is much you can do with a baby hummingbird. I would just leave it outside and let nature take care of it. It might make it, it might not. But it will probably die anyways. Sorry, no easy way to put it.

It was probably touched by humans and now the parents wont come back. Just take it in, keep it warm, and call a vet or a animal rescue center. Good luck, baby hummer!

Start searching, i’ve kept a wild bird that was injured and it lived for a month. Then, it died only because its leg was messed up. You could probably do it, it just needs a lot of attention and stuff, it’s a lot of work.

Look online and call around for wildlife bird rescue organizations in your area. There are people that specialize in hummingbirds. Keep it in a warm dark place for now, and I have read that you should not try to give it water. I’d say its best chance for survival is to give it to a professional.

You could try, but there’s a slim chance it will make it, sorry.

You can call and ask a veterinarian if they can refer you to someone who will be knowledgeable about taking care of hummingbirds.

I wish the old wives tale of once you touch a bird the parents won’t feed it would stop! T

he parents w i l l feed it. Human odor has nothing to do with it. Perhaps it was in a state they go into called tupor. It’s like hibernation to conserve energy when it’s cold. You did fine.

Once you touch a baby animal, the mom won’t take it back. It would be very hard to raise the bird yourself. There are Wildlife Rehabilitation centers in pretty much every state which take in injured wild animals and heal whatever is wrong with them. Once the animal is recovered, they release them back into the wild. Most have sanctuaries which they can keep the animals in, and all of them are free.
I have done this with multiple birds, and even a fox.
Good luck! It is kind for you to help!
