How do you make Hummingbird food/solution?

I just bought a feeder and it didn’t come with any food powder. I don’t want to go back to the store and besides I belive in not paying for something you can make at home for alot less. Thanks for your input.

Hummingbirds are fun, entertaining, full of energy and it’s easy to attract hummingbirds.

the first answer is correct…please do NOT use honey…this can kill a hummingbird and do NOT use red dye…the color of the feeder should be enough to attract the birds..there is a lot of controversy as to whether or not the dye causes liver and kidney damage to the birds..so best to play it safe and just use sugar and water…no other additives. Keep the feeder in a cool place away from hours of direct sunlight which can actually ferment the sugar water. Clean frequently so bacteria does not grow.
