Oregon Hummingbird Migration?
October 12, 2011 Hummingbird Bird Feeder
Hi Everyone!
I moved to Oregon this last summer, and I put out hummingbird feeders like I used to in northern Idaho. We used to take the feeders down in late July – early August, but that was because of Idaho’s winter climate. In Oregon, when is the best time to take them down? I still have my one hummer that comes on a daily basis, but its October now, and he hasn’t headed south for the winter. Do Oregon hummingbirds stay here year-round (I’m in Salem), or do they migrate to Latin America like most species? I’m just wanting to know if I need to take my feeder down to kinda force him to migrate, or if they stay during the winters. Thanks!

Hummingbirds are fun, entertaining, full of energy and it’s easy to attract hummingbirds.

Hi Michael!
A hummingbird will migrate, if it is going to migrate when it is time to migrate regardless of the feeder. If anything, a feeder helps them leave earlier.
Do other migrating birds that come to your seed feeders, stay past their appointed times?
Salem is mild enough for an Anna’s to hang out all winter
