Hummingbird babies: Human Contact?

Posted by Filed Under hummingbird with 2 Comments

I was wondering, if a Human picks up a baby hummingbird will the mom notice later on and abandon the baby?

My aunt told me that animals abandon their babies once they sense human contact, which I myself am not sure if its true or not, but in this case I couldn’t avoid picking up the little bird. It fell out of its nest and was on the ground on its back struggling to get up, I picked it up and placed it back in the nest and its resting now.

Hummingbirds, Dogs and a Chipmunk

While trying to get some good shots of the hummingbirds at one of my feeders, the dogs discovered a chipmunk hiding underneath the propane tank. They really, REALLY wanted to chase the little creature, but since it was on the other side of the fence, all they could do was watch and wait. But at least the Hummers were getting fed! :-)

Puppets Chloe the Cat and Grandma Kitty share a bit of animal info. Todays topic is Humming birds. Facts like; How many times a second does a humming bird flap its wings? How big is a humming birds nest? Do humming birds eat only from flowers and how often do they eat? How many different species “flavors” of humming birds are there? Yes, Chloe and Kitty will help you get the answers to all these questions. They have a few bloopers in the video… we left them in. We are not all about being perfect, we are just hoping to get kids a little interested in animals and maybe they will also get a spark and want to do a puppet show of their own to share fun and facts. Please keep any comments Family Friendly. Thanks to puppetfamily.com for the puppets and helping with the video.

Thirsty Honey Bees on a Humming Bird Feeder!!!

Posted by Filed Under Hummingbird Bird Feeder with 6 Comments

The last week and a half we have had no rain here in Southeast Missouri, and it is so hot here that for the last few days dozens of honey bees have been draining our hummingbird feeder dry! At first it was irritating, but I really don’t blame the poor things. So we just let them do what comes naturally, and drink away! Hopefully we will get some rain soon so they can go back to their flowers. But we did get a pretty cool video out of it! I hope you all like it!
