HummingBird Incubation?

Is it normal for hummingbird’s to leave their nest unattended for long periods of time? I live in California, and a humming bird made a nest right outside of my front door, and she’s laid around 6 eggs according to my mom, but since the day before yesterday I haven’t seen her around, I’m worried about the eggs, Is this normal? will they be safe? or were they abandoned?
Sorry I have no idea how to regularly reply, at least I cant seem to find a reply option.

Thank you for responding =)
Glad to hear that it’s normal for them to leave the nest for longer periods.

Anyways, about there being no way a hummingbird laying 6 eggs, I personally don’t know how many eggs are in the nest, that’s the amount my mom said she saw, I haven’t checked because I’m to afraid that I might damage the nest or something somehow.

Mix 1 part white sugar to 4 parts boiled water, let cool, add to feeder, clean and change once a week. Don’t get clever with any other sweetener, WHITE NORMAL SUGAR ONLY!!!! no dye either please, just get a red or colourful feeder, if they’re around they’ll find it. the one in this video i bought from the wild birds unlimited Canada store. rail for them sitting on and a moat to stop ants.

How can I prevent my cat from…?

Posted by Filed Under Hummingbird Bird Feeder with 9 Comments

When I went onto my porch this morning, I saw the saddest sight ever, a dead humming bird. Though it wasn’t bloddy, it was sooooooooo sad! We have a hummingbrid feeder on my porch, and so far, only two had come. My cat killed a hummingbird! I am very mad and sad, but i know it is what she is supposed to do. Is there any way I can prevent her from doing it. She is very sensative to collars and we cann ot make her an indoor cat, she has been outside her whole life. I stuck! What can I do??? PS is there a way to do it so we can still see the humming birds???
