Hormones Cause All Hummingbirds To Migrate

Specific humming bird migration patterns differ according to species and habitats, but there are some commonalities that connects the habits of different species migration.

All hummingbirds migrate due to hormone changes in their bodies that are triggered by changes in the length of the day. This indicates the bird when it’s time to fly south for the winter.

Where they migrate to depends on the individual bird, but in General, most humming birds winter in the Mexico. Some winter to Southern California throughout Florida and some routes all the way to the Panama.

In preparation for the great migration, they make sure that they pack full of nectar and insects. Such a small bird must be strong for a long flight. Also, when humming birds make this incredible trip, they prefer travel alone. Unlike the geese or ducks, traveling in large groups is not to increase their chances of survival.

A single bird can feed off the coast of a flower at the same time, so wait for all the birds to eat would be a hassle and waste valuable time. Also, the humming birds are so small that predators usually ignore them, traveling in large groups offers no additional protection. Just because Hummer trip alone, however, does not mean that you will not see more than one both humming bird. After all, many can be travelling at the same time and pass on their travels.

They generally back during the day and the rest in the night, except in special cases such as throat Ruby humming bird, which moves on the Gulf of the Mexico. It must be more than a day for them to make it across, so that the birds must fly into the night, until the Earth is reached.

A trip to the United States in the North of the Gulf Coast would take anywhere from 5 to 10 days depending on the frequency at which they stop to rest. If they travel to Panama, it usually takes approximately 2 weeks. Humming birds remain in warmer climates, until it is time for them to fly to the North again and mate.

This spring migration is usually a little faster because females are ready to start breeding. Once again, the Hummer package on much weight for the flight, time of their departure so that they arrive where flowering plants are first flowering. The males arrive at the first, and then the females ranging from a few days to a few weeks later. Males claim their territories and that await females, making flight of fancy displays to attract in their territory. Birds Humming of waste at any time in the start of their nesting process.

When fall rolls around, they begin to fly to the South again, and the process repeated. The Hummer is still in danger when you travel: lack of food, storms, predators unknown, windows…. These guys have to expect something and the distances, they fly earn respects more examine how small and they are vulnerable.

Hummingbird migration-on the backs of geese

I remember sitting on the calico apron of my grandmother round look that the ruby-throated Hummingbird feed on the brightly coloured flowers in her garden. I felt safe and secure; together we were enchanted by the small bird stop briefly to enjoy the nectar. Her wings moved so fast that they seemed almost magically disappear. The warm softness of my grandmother’s voice echoes still every time I look at the many hummingbirds visiting my own garden and feeders today. “The little Hummingbird must go a long way South for the winter to life where it is warm. Then come back here to the North to live in my garden in the summer. It’s so small and need a ride on a larger bird called a Canadian goose lifts “, they would explain. Every summer enjoyed my grandmother told me this wonderful story as much as I adored the woman told. Perhaps, she was only repeating a story that had been told by someone close to her. I care not. The Hummingbird was a miracle to look like I snuggled close to my dear grandmother.

As I matured, was the story of the ruby-throated hummingbird migration just as much of a surprise as the incredible creation itself. This was a mere persistent folklore but why it originate?

Hummingbirds really migrate on the backs of geese? It shouldn’t they fly layer in order to obtain food sources for the trip? By now, I thought, scientists have tracked the migration. Maybe, fishermen and lovers of the hummingbird had personal note accounts that would be more reliable.

As it turns out, the ruby-throated hummingbird migration is not very well documented. Scientists have no radio channels small enough for the small Hummingbird. Efforts are being made to keep track of the migration by banding (wrapping a strip of aluminium around one leg.) Fishermen and others have reported seeing hummingbirds skimming humble about ocean waves. Many people have noticed hummingbirds. We know that they are not very high during the migration. Canadian geese fly a much as 20,000 meters high in the air. In addition, it is a known fact that Canadian geese not finish in the tropics. They migrate only as far south as the coast of the Carolinas. So there it flies the myth that these small birds South on the backs of Canadian geese lifts. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds must be able to see from food sources along the route of the stop along the way for a good meal at our feeders and flowers. Are you happy if you live along a migration route. So don’t take down your feeders too early. A poor hungry Hummingbird might be disappointed.Usually they do not exceed many roofs and trees flying.Across the water, like the ocean, this iridescent birds fly extremely low, often flying just above the waves. Canadian gees fly as high as 20,000 feet. Besides that hummingbirds migrate only not in flocks. Add to this, the male Hummingbird begins his migration a few weeks before the female or young males. This makes him the best choice of territory to attract the female soon to follow. In addition, women and young men can find more food during the subsequent flight.

The ruby-throated Hummingbird flies from as far north as Southern Canada all the way to southern Mexico and Central America, including the remarkable 300 miles and 20 hours of non-stop flight across the Gulf of Mexico.

The persistence of this folktale has never been explained. Maybe had some tender-hearted hummingbird enthusiasts, as my sweet grandmother hoped for a softer ride for this miniature wonders of nature. Perhaps, the remarkable journey seemed to be difficult for these delicate bird.So was the story of the migration on the backs of geese probably invented to solve a mystery. Today, if only in the hearts of those similar paid myself contain dear precious memories of the afternoon watching the beautiful little Hummingbird on the laps of our dear sweet grandmothers.
