Thirsty Honey Bees on a Humming Bird Feeder!!!

December 10, 2010 Hummingbird Bird Feeder

The last week and a half we have had no rain here in Southeast Missouri, and it is so hot here that for the last few days dozens of honey bees have been draining our hummingbird feeder dry! At first it was irritating, but I really don’t blame the poor things. So we just let them do what comes naturally, and drink away! Hopefully we will get some rain soon so they can go back to their flowers. But we did get a pretty cool video out of it! I hope you all like it!

LOL, yikes, honey bees swarming the feeder. We have a small group of maybe 6-8 bumble Bees (less aggressive) doing a similar thing. Doesnt seem to bother the hummingbirds, but this might.

just realized, that looks like the exact smae feeder we have. I think its also the yellow flowers on these that attract them.

@MithrilDwarf81 Well these bees were there because until recently hasn’t rained here in a month and a half, and my guess is that they were desparate for moisture. It has rained recently and we aren’t seeing this anymore.

@777TIZZable Yep! It hasn’t rained for over a month and a half here, and my guess is that the bees aren’t finding an abundance of flowers around, and need moisture. thank you for the five stars, even though they don’t have that rating system anymore.
